Universidad de Zaragoza
Universidad de Zaragoza (UNIZAR) is part of IBERUS Campus of International Excellence of the Ebro Valley, which joins public universities of several Spanish autonomous communities. UNIZAR is a modern, state-of-the-art research cluster with excellent facilities for R&D in Nanotechnology, including the Advanced Microscopy Laboratory (LMA). The activities of UNIZAR and LMA focus on manufacturing and processing micro- and nano-scaled structures and studying their applications, in collaboration with companies and technological institutes from different scientific disciplines.
In the TBMED project UNIZAR is represented by the Bionanosurf group, a pluridisciplinary laboratory carrying out research in the fields of nanoscience, nanomaterials and nanomedicine. Bionanosurf belongs to the Institute of Materials Science of Aragón (ICMA), a Joint Research Unit established by the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) and the University of Zaragoza.
Bionanosurf is one of Europe’s leading groups in nanoscience, working on multifunctional magnetic and gold nanoparticles for biomedical applications, nanobiosensors and applications of nanotechnology in preservation of cultural heritage. The TBMED team is specialized in synthesis, characterization and biofunctionalization of nanoparticles, magnetic hyperthermia, drug delivery, cell-material interactions and biomolecular recognition studies.
In TBMED UNIZAR is the leader of Work Package 6. This includes the synthesis and characterization of inorganic (magnetic, gold, etc.) nanoparticles, advanced microscopy techniques and preclinical testing. In addition, UNIZAR will be involved in the development of one of the medical devices (magnetic nanoparticles for hyperthermia), as well as in the Open Innovation test bed establishment.
